| no partners | | Wanted something close to the house while the kids were sleeping. Parked at the west trailhead and headed up Trail 3. After the first switchback, it was STEEP. Straight uphil on a rocky, loose, muddy trail. I’m glad I opted to go uphill on this part of the loop, because downhill would have been annoying.
Nice views at the top of the trail. Walked past the towers and then got on Trail D up to the summit of West Canfield. Not much of a summit, no views, but pretty trail. It curved downhill off the north side and headed east. Some limited views of Lake Hayden.
Mildly confusing junction while trying to find the top of Trail 7. Once on 7, it was a very pleasant downhill hike on a nice trail. Again, the junction with Trail 8 was somewhat poorly signed, but Trail 8 to finish out the loop was also a very nice downhill hike.
Saw five other hikers, and three dirtbikers, so not too busy. I imagine summer weekends have a lot more dirtbikes to contend with. Lots of turkeys, and a few deer. |
