We started the loop on Peters Trail #105 up canyon to the Kane Spring area. Trail eventually ascends to the top the ridge and we followed it down the other side until leaving the trail above Horse Camp Basin.
I wanted to connect the Peters Trail with the Hoolie Bacon Trail #111. So we hiked across Horse Camp Basin which I also wanted to explore. Unfortunately, the area burned in the last fire and the juniper/oak scrub has been replaced with thick catclaw. It was a sporting event trying to keep from being shredded by the catclaw but we finally made it to the Hoolie Bacon Trail and took a much needed break.
We continued on Hoolie Bacon Trail over a short ridge and down into upper Tortilla Creek. This area was spared much of the fire damage and was by far the nicest part of the loop. Took another break to enjoy the scenery before continuing back to the trailhead. Minus the catclaw it was a decent short loop hike! |
