We were in Vegas for the weekend and decided to check out the Valley of Fire. Stopped at several of the scenic stops along the way, including the iconic road, for pictures.

Started the hike at the Fire Wave trailhead and did a double loop that combined several trails. The first stop was the Fire Wave, which resembles the Wave at Coyote Buttes, but smaller. We waited for the group ahead of us to take pictures, then took a few of our own, then moved on.

We proceeded down the trail, which passed through 2 slot canyons, as well as numerous picturesque boulders. Our trail then intersected with the south end of the White Domes trail, which we followed through the White Domes canyon. We then looped around the west end of the trail which ascended out of the canyon to the White Domes trailhead, which was packed with people. We continued along the trail, then walked along the promontory just east of the trail, which had excellent views of the surrounding canyons. We climbed down from the promontory and rejoined the crowds as the trail descended into the canyon. We checked out the old movie set from the 1966 movie The Professionals, but this area was very crowded as well.

Just past the movie set, the crowds vanished. We continued to the trail junction and this time went north on the Seven Wonders trail, marveling at all the colors. The Fire Cave was the best of the Seven Wonders, and we spent some time checking it out. There were also several other smaller caves, a long arch, and the Crazy Hill which we climbed around on. We then circled back to the car. On the way out, we saw a lone bighorn sheep ambling parallel to us.

Overall, this is a fascinating area, with beautiful, colorful rocks, several slot canyons, multiple caves, several arches, and numerous other fascinating geological structures. The entire double loop was only 3.8 miles, but felt like a lot more than that because we saw and experienced so much in that short span. The Fire Wave is amazing, but likely to be crowded (we were lucky that only one group was there before us.) The White Domes trailhead was extremely crowded and the stench within about 20 yards of the outhouses was awful. The crowds were completely gone just past the movie set (about 0.3 miles from the trailhead) and we saw only one other group on the Seven Wonders trail. Definitely worthwhile.
