This is a short hike with a good elevation climb at the start. The weather was perfect in the mid 70’s and clear air. I had done this trail many times before but I never get tired of it. Our plan was to also visit Earnie’s Fall but with the very light flow at the falls I didn’t think Earnie would be that spectacular so we abandon that side trip.
We started out and I let Lisa Lead, she has a really fast pace and I kept up (over 3MPH), reminded me of days years ago when if you didn’t have smoke coming out from between your legs you weren’t hiking. Well any way I made it about a quarter mile up into the climb and I could not continue the pace, I got really dizzy and had to stop and sit. Lisa said I was as white as a ghost and I felt like crap. Rested for about 5 minutes and recovered. When we continued I took the lead and set the pace, no problem the rest of the hike. Amazingly my GPS said I was doing a 2 to 2.5 MPH pace up the climb which is more in my norm. I forgot to turn my GPS on when we started the hike and didn’t remember until after the rest so I have no Idea what pace we were doing before but it kicked my but, quite embarrassing. Oh to be young again. On the way down we made the 3 miles in less than an hour which is also faster than I normally hike, of course when I hike solo I take things a little slower. Great afternoon hike but the water was a little sparse, probably be better after this weekend’s storm comes in.
No need for a trail condition report, it’s in the park on a heavily used trail so take a guess. The only thing about this trail is there are a lot of rock steps as you ascend and makes for a good work out. Water was sparse in the streams with a light flow at the falls. |
