| no partners | | I went on another hike today, this one close to home in Saguaro National Park. This is one of those trails I have done multiple times. The first time when I was in high school coming down from Mica Mountain for a 16 mile hike. I have done the same trek multiple other times and each time I swore I would never do it again. This hike was a little different because I started from below and headed up but only to Juniper Basin. Round trip it was 13.3 mile with 3600 feet of accumulated elevation gain. Funny how time makes you forget just how grueling this trail is.
Enough griping though, actually it was a very scenic hike on a crystal clear cool day. There are views of almost all the mountains in southern Arizona. I don’t know if it is the continuous uphill climb that wears on my mind or if it is the fact that you climb up to a high point just to realize there is another high point but you have to drop down a little before heading up to the next high point. Repeat this numerous times. I tried counting these events but I always loose track. Good views looking down into Box Canyon. Very few people on the trail only 4 after you get in a ways. There was a bit of snow on the north facing slopes at the higher elevations. The streams in and around Juniper Basin all had some water flowing. Great hike even though my knees are complaining a bit, the 6 .7 miles of downhill was harder than the 6.7 up. Felt good to get out on a more strenuous hike with some AEG, it has been a while since I had done that, I was beginning to wonder if I still had it in me but I think I could still pull off a few more. Maybe the Hieroglyphics to the flat Iron after my last failed attempt. |
