| partners | | Another short hike in Saguaro National Park around sunset. We started this hike at the Speedway Trail Head at the Wildhorse Trail Head. We will hike the Shantz Trail and return on the Vanover and Creosote Trail. Once again we finish just after sunset.
Besides the usual desert scenery there is not a lot of interesting points along this hike. The wash crossings are the most interesting. Bajada Vista, Monument, Loma Verde and the Javelina washes are the 4 main wash crossings. This time of year all the growth is dead in contrast to last summer when it was thick and green. Walking along the Shantz can get quite old as there is a lot of sand and makes the going tougher but its only 2.5 miles and I can deal with just about anything for 2.5 miles. Just an FYI if you are going to hike any of the washes in the park the best time to do it is early morning in the summer after the rains have packed the sand in the washes (actually anyone that has hiked the desert knows that already). Only saw three people on the trail and they were runners, actually saw them twice as they were doing the same loop in the opposite direction (does this count as 6 people or is it still 3?). |
