| no partners | | I went to Phoenix to take Ginny to the Airport (She will be spending with family in Lubbock) and since I was up there I would spend a couple days hiking in the Superstitions. The first day I Took the Hieroglyphics Trail. This is a popular 1.5 mile hike to some petroglyphs. I then hiked further on up the canyon in an attempt to get to the Superstition ridgeline. After the petroglyphs the easy to follow trail becomes more of a route. The trail is not hard to follow but watch out for side trails that are also marked with cairns.
Great views to the west overlooking the Phoenix basin. I made about 2.5 miles of the 3 mile hike to the ridge before I opted to go no further, the rock scramble up the steep canyon was a bit more than I felt comfortable with. For whatever reason my balance didn’t seem to be quite what it usually is so I opted to return the way I came (hope it was just a bad day and not that I’m getting less young). So I wouldn’t have to end the day with just a 5 mile hike I tacked on another 5 miles along the Lost Goldmine Trail, this was an easy hike along a good trail. Nice scenery along the base of Southwest side of the Superstition Mountains. The weather was cool, high in the low 50’s with low hanging clouds and occasional sun. |
