| partners | | Was in Phoenix picking up Ginny at the airport and spent a couple days hiking in the supes. I thought we would do the cave trail from the bluff spring trail and this time see if I could find the route up to the caves along the west side of the ridge. The last time I tried this I couldn't find the route and ended up going along the east side of the ridge and coming into the caves from the north.
Started out from Perlta about 10:00 and we headed up the Bluff Spring Trail. Made it to the Cave trail w/o incident. The cave trail is easy to follow and and quite visible for something that is just a route. got off track a few times but quickly recovered. Just below the climb up to the cave is where I abandon the attempt. Looks like the route just heads straight up a rock surface. Decided to head around the east side of the ridge and come in from the north again. Not sure if the rock climbing is better on the east side but I did it before and figured we could do it again. Will have to try this trail coming in from Freemont saddle and heading down the Cave trail.
We headed over to Lone Tree Saddle for the view of Weavers Needle and then headed down the Peralta. Finished the hike around 4:00. We missed Linda and Trekkin Gecko who were doing a different loop. We were probably on the east side of the ridge when they were heading down the cave trail on the west side of the ridge. Good water flow on in the streams. |
