| no partners | | After finding some good runoff going strong last weekend, I took a chance on this one. After crossing the creek to start, I knew it wouldn't be dry, but it's always a mystery until you actually get into it.
I hadn't really considered that there would be snow, but the north-facing slopes were covered and Ryan and I trudged through with improper footwear, tolerating the cold as it easily penetrated our trail runners.
Speaking of cold, and other things unconsidered, we were surprised to find a winter wonderland of ice along the creek which required some steady attention to footing during all our scrambling on the day, but also resulted in some rarely enjoyed scenes.
We encountered a guy backpacking a loop along the AZT who was none-too-pleased about the lack of trail out this way. I'll mention adding it to Shawn's list sometime.  |
