| partners | | This was a last minute decision after another hike option fell through. It's a solid hike in beautiful desert terrain, not too far from town and allows for a half-day commitment. Kelly was able to come along, which made for some nice company and conversation along the way.
There were a few wash crossings on the road in that might pose a problem for those who typically find such things to be problematic. Summer flooding has cut some deeper channels resulting in approach and departure angles playing a factor for some users.
There was jeep at the trailhead and we found the owner about halfway up the trail. He seemed curiously out of place.
The weather was perfect, a little chilly to start but once moving uphill no problem. The antenna when initially reaching the tabletop isn't there anymore, but a new one now stands at the north end of the peak.
Only found one of the reference marks. Can't remember if the other was ever there, and for some reason, the search for datasheets on the USGS website isn't working for me the past few tries, so I wasn't able to figure out which direction and distance to look for it.
Views were a bit hazy with dust in the air, but still nice views including Four Peaks, Saddle Mtn, Babo, Lemmon, Turnbull, and the Supes. A great day out in the monument.  |
