| no partners | | Last week showed some really nice colors across the rim, but there were enough greens that I figured it would be nice again this weekend, despite the rain and wind on Sunday.
Unfortunately, the cold front and wind advisory convinced us to cut short the weekend of camping and head back home after our hike yesterday.
It was already windy enough on Friday that we skipped numerous unoccupied rim-edge camp spots in favor of being sheltered in the trees. Saturday the girls requested something under 8 miles so I pieced together a sample of nearby favorites that we were able to hit by walking right out of camp.
It was cool and breezy and we got to enjoy the live action of fall falling. As is not unusual for the area, we saw a very large black bear scampering away, with no interest in interacting with us. No shortage of poop indicates this guy has a Chris Farley-sized diet, or more likely -- a few friends. A few elk and a hawk topped off the wildlife sightings.
Back at camp, we packed up to escape the oncoming storm, bundled in poofy coats, hats and gloves, despite being mid-afternoon. You can't convince me of a good reason to go camping with 50 mph winds. The seasons are a-changin! |

Autumn Foliage Observation Substantial Some down from last week's rain, so plenty of leaf litter. One draw was 100% winter bare. Lots still near perfect. |
