| partners | | On our third day in Las Vegas we headed to Valley of Fire State Park. The hike would be to what I believe is the highest point in the park a place called Wedding Peak. This is a popular place for couples to get married for those who like to spend a lot of money on a wedding. A helicopter flies the couple to the peak. We are going to hike up to it. From the peak you have a view in all directions and the Colorado River/Lake is visible to the south. This hike was planned by a third party and there were about a dozen of us. We were told that it was all off trail and involved rock scrambling with a couple places with exposure. Since Ginny and I don't do well with exposure we went along just to see how we would do. We could always head back if it was too much.
Great hike with some rock scrambling to get to the first ridge then a section of fairly flat walking. At three miles in the rock climbing with a little exposure starts. actually wasn't too bad but we were slowing the group up so we decided to turn around here. We could see our destination at our turn around point. I actually think we could do this hike if we weren't in a group and could do it at our own pace and not hold anyone up. The Sandstone rock has good gripping qualities so slipping isn't an issue.
Great hike with lots of scenery along the way. Looks like there are plenty of other possible hikes in this area. There is no water along this trail.
