While in Las Vegas on our round about way back to Lubbock we hiked in Red Rock Canyon. We had previously hiked most of the other trails but never did the Pine Canyon Loop. Our plan was to hike the loop trail and add an off trail section up the canyon. We never made it too far up canyon due to the thick brush and walking in the creek was not an option for us, too much water and too cold to be hiking in wet boots.

Beautiful canyon from what we saw of it. This has been a good year for snow so all the creeks were running good. Started out the hike in low 30's temperature with a strong breeze, very cold. As we got closer to the canyon the breezes died down and the temps warmed up, great day for hiking. Very few people in the Red Rock Park as this was a Thursday and the weather a bit chilly. As we finished the hike the weather turned and storms rolled in off the mountains from the west.

The trail is in excellent condition and easy to follow. There are user trails that head up canyon a bit but end up against the cliffs, used by rock climbers. There were a couple of them scaling the rock walls. We talked to one group of hikers that mentioned the best way to get up canyon was to follow the stream bed but they said there was more water than they ave seen in it ever before. As a warning to enter Red Rock Canyon Park you need to get a timed entry pass on line. No fees if you have a National Park Pass.
