My next to oldest TX Granddaughter @EmilyT (now a senior in the nursing program at the University of AR), had originally planned for the third summer in a row, to again visit me. This summer she had hoped to drive out and camp and hike with me at one of my Mogollon Rim - Camp Grasshopper's for 4 nights/5 days, then drive back to the Univ of AR in Fayetteville to work for the remainder of the summer.

Unfortunately, the complicated logistics of our plans, her safely doing this trip alone with all the AZ "hot" June driving miles to and from in her older sedan, expenses to be incurred, the number of total days required..away from her summer employment in AR, and loaded with camping gear, she would also need to drive from my AZ residence, her vehicle the to/back 250 miles total to my campsite. It was just too much :( Hopefully we will come up with a better solution next June'24.

It was a must for me to "Get Out of Dodge" as the walls were closing in again after a very long and physically challenging for me- Winter and Spring'23.

After a very snowy and wet Winter and Spring, my favorite M/Rim Camping and Hiking area was just gorgeous upon my arrival at 10:30am on this Wednesday-6/14. The whole area was lush green with the grasses 12-18" high and lots of beautiful ferns. Just before arrival at my campsite turn-in, I noticed a huge pine tree that earlier had fallen across the road. I thought the entrance to my campsite was blocked, but no, a forest service maintenance crew had cut the downed tree into sections to clear the road and then place the tree sections next to the campsite entrance [ photo ] .

This trip I had absolutely nothing preplanned except to enjoy seven days' worth and that is exactly what I did! I was up later in the morning because I had misjudged the late night, early morning forecasted temps which were actually between 39f and 41f for my first four nights.

I did do three area short, off-trail hikes which I enjoyed and of course I, once again, exercised my Camp Grasshopper kitchen to the fullest.

Sometimes it's nice to not have an itinerary :)
