| no partners | | All in all, the hike was fairly easy. There was a lot of dead brush, most of which can be avoided by walking around it. Creosote, mesquite trees, a lot of dead looking weeds/grass, and a lot of ROCKS. The hike was mostly bushwhack, which some open country walking near the bottom. There was a primitive barbed wire fence to step over roughly 1/4 mile from the cul-de-sac. There were no signs marked "Private Property" anywhere along this fence. At the top I didn't see a registry, so I left a jar with a registry entry. The last recorded summit of this peak was in 2010 by Andy and Sarah Martin.

Directions: This is just ONE way to go... From the town of Gleeson, AZ, drive South on N High Lonesome Rd for 4.4 miles. Turn right onto W Foothill Trail and continue for 0.9 miles until the end. Park at the cul-de-sac off the road, but it's unknown as to whether this is private land or if there's an easement for hiker's. See note below...
When I was here, I saw a fenced area with a private gate to the Southwest. From the cul-de-sac, I saw a house to the Southwest that had a private gate and fence around the property. At the cul-de-sac, there was no sign saying "Private Property" going to the Northwest. Apparently, the neighbor to the North called the police and when I finished my hike there was a police officer waiting to talk with me. The police officer was very nice to me and I explained the situation to him. He said I wasn't doing anything illegal as far as he knows, and nobody owns Outlaw mountain. It wasn't clear to either of us if anyone owned the land Northwest of the cul-de-sac on West Foothill Trail. I explained to him that I didn't see a "Private Property" sign or a "No Trespassing sign" between the cul-de-sac and Outlaw Mountain. I felt that there should have been a sign there if it was in fact private property, but after looking carefully, I did not see a single sign. Continue to read about my experience with a COWARDLY neighbor who called the police and was present but ran away before I got back to my vehicle...
NOTE:
To the A-hole who let the air out of my TWO left tires on Sep 29, 2023 who drove a silver vehicle -- You are 100% GUILTY because when I arrived all my tires were filled. I guess you were too much of a coward to face me after I finished my hike. Your mental disorder and arrogance won't get you anywhere but in trouble with the law and piss off a few good citizens like myself. I could charge you with tampering with my vehicle and putting my life in danger by causing me to be stranded. The police should charge you for tampering with my vehicle and for wasting their valuable time. If you TRULY own the property from the cul-de-sac on West Foothills Trail going toward Outlaw mountain, which I doubt you do, you need to put up a simple $10 sign saying "private property", and maybe a 40 foot section of barbed wire fence so that hiker's know for sure that it's off limits. If I had seen any kind of sign like this I would not have hiked that mountain. Karma is a bitch. It will HIT YOU SOMEDAY!! I'd have a whole lot more respect for you (a) if you didn't run away like a cowardly little mouse, and (b) if you didn't let the air out of my tires. You probably suffer from some bipolar disorder and this is the only way you know how to vent your misguided anger.
In the end, the police waited for me to inflate my tires, gave me extra water and made sure I could make it back to the main road. Thanks to the Cochise County police and officer Felix for helping me out of a potentially dangerous situation. The police are truly heroes and they deserve my respect. |
