The day after hiking Elden Lookout, I stayed at the Quality Inn on Rt 40 in Flagstaff. What a deal I got. $87 for 2 nights including all taxes and a continental breakfast in the morning. I arrived at the trailhead around 8:30 am. I was the only car there. After a few minutes another car pulled in and it was a couple who started a few minutes behind me. I did see anyone else until getting up to the high saddle 1/4 mile from the summit. I continued to the summit and explored the area. It was very windy. I saw a total of 4 other hikers all day. The trail was maintained very well. The entire way, I believe there was only 1 fallen tree blocking the trail. At the summit, I was surprised to find the fire tower "cabin" open. I walked in and found a registry which I signed. They use this room for storage. Apparently, the tower is only manned in the summer, but not now because I suppose it's not fire season. At the peak there was also a helicopter pad, and I was able to see Mt Humphreys looking to the East. All in all, it was a great trail and I would do this hike again someday. There really were not any steep sections of the trail, therefore I was able to move quite fast. I started off with just a T-shirt, then when I got near the top, perhaps within 1/2 mile, I added a wind breaker and flannel shirt since the wind got much stronger and the temps felt much cooler.

Things that pissed me off about Flagstaff -- 11%+ sales tax, couldn't use the BK app in one of the Burger King's because that location "didn't support it". Prices on the board were not the "real prices". They told me the corporate office was supposed to update the prices and they were still waiting. Anyway, it was 7.49 + tax for a Whopper, when the price on the board said 6.99. 6.99 is what you would pay in Tucson or Phoenix, and probably even Taxafornia, but not this ghetto town. Why can't they charge the same as everyone else? I suppose they think they are special because they happen to be 60 miles from the Grand Canyon. Furthermore, the restrooms required getting a key from the staff (ghetto feces!!). They did end up giving me the BOGO coupon after I told them it was available in the app for other locations. The place was completely EMPTY and I can understand WHY. Anyway, it was a great burger. That's the only good thing I could say about that BK location. Other disappointments with Flagstaff have to do with the design/layout of this town. The train runs at night and blows the horn at times. Most of the hotels in this town are right along the main road which is about 500 feet from the train!!

Total distance = 10.48 miles
AEG = 2732 feet
Strava moving time = 4 hrs 29 mins
Strava elapsed time = 5 hrs 55 mins
