| no partners | | First hike of 2024. Decided to get out and do something after the first playoff game ended. The sky suddenly changed from overcast all day to bright and sunny with wispy clouds and 75° at 1615. Many open parking spaces.
Started counterclockwise on the Circumference trail. Almost no people. I love this area that feels so remote in the middle of the city. Mild ups and downs for a while, then a moderate uphill to the northwest saddle, then a long, gradual downhill before a series of switchbacks up to the summit trail. Beautiful weather.
Reached the summit trail around 1545. Far fewer people there than I've seen in the past. Original plan was to reach the peak just before sunset, but got there slightly after sunset. My first time seeing the sunset from Piestewa Peak. It was a good day for it. Comfortable temperature. 9 people on the north peak, and 5 people on the true peak to the south. I hung out for ~20 minutes and watched the sunset from each peak, then headed back down. Nice experience. Glad it wasn't super crowded. |
