We were concerned about the pools potentially being packed with people, but decided to check it out anyway. Numerous people and dogs were present throughout the first mile, on the wide, flat trail.
After we arrived at the steps 1 mile in and began heading uphill, we saw maybe 6 more people total. The trail was well defined and maintained. At 2.2 miles, there was a large waterfall about 200 meters away and about 100 feet below us, but we didn't feel like fighting through the thorns to get there.
There was only one person at the pools when we arrived, but there was a lot of water. We went upstream for a little while and found a nice 6-7 foot high waterfall with a nice pool below, so we jumped in and the water was great. We then headed back down to the pools, and jumped into each of them. The water was chilly for a second, but felt great to jump in. We played around in the pools for a while, had some snacks, then headed back. As we headed up from the lowest pool, there were a couple more people jumping in the middle pool.
We saw 4 more people on the descent, then over 50 people once we reached the flat part of the trail.
Overall, great day. It was warm and sunny enough that we had no hesitation about jumping into the pools and waterfalls. We saw only 3 other people at the pools, despite hundreds at the trailhead. Remarkably, we saw no trash the whole way. |

Wildflowers Observation Moderate Numerous wildflowers, well past their peak, many beginning to wilt, many ocotillos in full bloom. |
