My first trip to the top of the Paria Plateau, which was much sandier than I'd imagined. It's such a peculiar landscape of sand dunes, hoodoos and a bunch of dead junipers. We stumbled across a brand-new catchment on the eastern traverse across to the Wright Trail descent. It seems as if it may almost be complete, in that it only needs half the panels installed and the fence around the area closed off in one corner. Below Rachels' Pools, almost back to the vehicles was my first viper encounter of the season. The hangry wittle guy was instantly aggressive and rattling even though we didn't even cross its path. It was fun exploring the area some with a bone fide Vermilion Cliffs veteran. Perhaps he can talk me into returning to climb a few more of the sandstone towers in the area. |
