angela and i have been talking about a petrified forest trip
we both rescheduled some things so that we could do this before it got too warm
left phoenix wednesday morning
grabbed a quick lunch in holbrook and went to the south end of the park
did the rainbow forest loop, which includes long logs, agate house and giant logs
got to see two of my favorite eastern collard lizards

drove north to the jasper forest overlook and did the hike that follows an old roadbed
lots of petrified wood and some nice badland rock formations along the way
one of the park's "off the beaten path" hikes
sue and i did this a year ago, and i enjoyed it just as much
stayed in holbrook, so we had some driving to do
good first day
weather was perfect with temps in upper 60s
