While beating the bushes for a "trip idea", I stumbled across some excellent old HAZ posts about a group trip to the Petrified Forest. The most colorfully written triplogs are by @PaleoRob in 2007 and 2008 [ triplog ] [ triplog ] , and there's an excellent photoset by @Hoffmaster [ photoset ] .

I probably read these five years ago in advance of my first visit to the area [ triplog ] . I did find the area they scoured but mine was a quick trip (2nd hike of the day) and my recent re-read of those 15 year old triplogs convinced me I should go back and look around.

Fairly short walk, which is good after the 3.5 hr morning drive up from Phoenix, but very enjoyable: Painted Desert views, petroglyphs, and pottery sherds galore. Found a few new things and there was plenty to make a vidlog [ youtube video ] . (link corrected)
