It was short with manageable AEG with the added bonus of "Hot Springs" in the name, so we were going to do a soak.
The trail started easy enough with a gentle slope down for the first mile down. After you pass through the gate the trail gets a bit more rocky and steep, but quite doable. You get views into the winding San Francesco River and cottonwoods leafing out.
I was not sure were the hot springs might be, so I first checked out the east side of the river w/ no luck. I grabbed a stick for support and crossed the river to check out the other side. I found one "Hot Spring" on the river bank lined w/ rocks. You could see bubbles coming up from the ground, but this would have to be dug out and relined to be of any use. I found one other possibility inland, but it also was a bust.
Oh well, it still was a pretty little hike and we were back on the road and headed home. A fun little trip into places we had not been before, but armed with ideas for future hikes. |
