The trail starts very unceremoniously, no trail sign, no register, no informative kiosk area, just a single track trail beginning on the side of a dirt road. For the lack of fan fare the trail is excellent and really a top tier hike, with some big 360 views that help put the remote nature of this area into perspective. Highlights included looking up the raging White Cap Creek drainage and south into the Frank Church river of No Return Wilderness and beyond. The trail is about as classic of a single track trail one can hike; it zig zags its way up a series of ridgelines leading up to Bad Luck Mountain. The trail was steep at times, but its idyllic nature offset the extra effort. We turned around at the top, near the foundation of an old fire lookout. We returned the way we hiked in. |
