| no partners | | This was the only day hike I completed during this most recent trip to the Bitterroots. It had always been on my radar, but my guide had it listed as an unofficial route and made it seem semi-ambitious. However, since the publication of the guide book the trail had been made official, so I figured it was worth giving it a try.
The first three-quarters of a mile were scorched by a fire, but after that it was fine. The trail and tread remained good during the burned portion and throughout most of the hike. Some longer than usual talus traverses and a little bit of route finding on the way, but a nice trail overall and the lake was a great destination. This lake proved to be a little unique in the fact that it had no outlet stream, due to a large natural dam that had formed from a rock slide ions ago I imagine. We took the quickest and somewhat steep route to the lake when we arrived, however, the trail may have continued on to a less steep approach. After letting Dot cool off, we returned the way we came. |
