| no partners | | This was a hike to the summit of Desatoya Peak (elevation of 9,976 feet and prominence of 3,548 feet), the highpoint of Churchill County. Churchill County is in NW Nevada; the county seat is Fallon.
This was my second attempt at this peak. I went out there last year and got stuck in a mud hole on the drive to the TH. Fortunately I was able to call 775OFR and they came and pulled me out of the mud hole.
This year the road was dry and I was able to make it to my TH at Basque Summit. It is a crappy road though -- it was 11 miles from pavement and it took me an hour and 15 minutes to make the drive.
It was a nice hike -- it was partly on a road and partly through open country. Views were expansive all the way, as there was no vegetation taller than knee high.
I made my way to Desatoya Peak, and on the way back I hiked up to nearby North Desatoya, which is 8 feet lower.
Now that I hiked up to Desatoya, I have been to the highpoint of each of Nevada's 17 counties. So this project is now complete. |
