Dave and I did our 2nd annual Christmas day hike!! We stopped at New Town Buffet on Cortaro road for some great Chinese food afterwards. The buffet was exactly $20 with the tip. Great food, great deal.

Hiked in a loop in conjunction with Irvington Hill.

After summiting Irvington Hill, we came back down the Bittersweet trail. At the junction of the Camaro Loop trail we took a left and continued for about 700 feet. We could have actually taken this loop trail all the way around but it did go quite a bit out of the way and we felt like we should take a shortcut to go in the direction we needed to go. We turned off the trail going Northeast and continued for about 500 feet until we reached an unmarked trail running Southeast and Northwest. We turned going Southeast. The satellite map showed that this unmarked trail ran back into the eastern branch of the Camaro loop trail. We took the trail to that junction, made a left and continued North on the Camaro loop trail. Next, we saw a junction with the Boulder Belt trail and took a right. We took this trail around the North side of Peak 2880. Our original plan was to look for a trail leading up, but since we didn't find one, we knew we had to bushwhack. Since the sun was directly in our eyes, we decided to turn back and go West and hike up from the shady side of the trail. Originally, it looked like a rough bushwhack, but it wasn't bad at all. We found a few animal trails that got us pretty high up. From there, we found some open spaces and channels leading up. Before we knew we were at the summit.

We first climbed up to the Western peak (2880), which looked slightly higher than the Eastern most peak, but the topo map showed an X and the elevation of 2883 feet written on the Eastern most peak. Because there was confusion in what peak was the high point, we ended up hiking both high points. We did an open Country hike down the steep slope traveling North/Northeast and then hit the main trail down below. Then, we took the main trail East. We were only on that main trail for 100 feet before we saw a switchback heading North. Since we wanted to head back to the trailhead, we ended up doing a short 400 foot bushwhack East to some kind of utility easement road and then headed South back to Irvington Place where we were parked.

All in all it was a great day, we were glad we had great weather and that we were able to reach all 3 summits in a reasonable amount of time!
