This was a road walk. The road was in decent shape, and with a high clearance 4WD vehicle you could drive all the way to the top. On my way up I saw 3 service vehicles driving back down from the peak, and on my descent a couple of squirrel hunters were driving up the road.
The surveyors datasheet refers to this as Mount Pleasant on Jack Mountain. I did not locate the benchmark but one of the reference marks, RM2, was stamped "Pleasant" and dated 1941. Someone had painted it red. I some more red paint on a concrete footing and walked over to it expecting to see the other reference mark. However, instead of a disk there was an etching in the concrete in the shape of a cross. I am not certain, but I am thinking that this was used as the other reference mark.
The lookout tower that was once atop the mountain is no longer there; all that remains are the 4 concrete footings. |
