I parked at the Emery Henderson TH and hiked from there. I could have driven closer on some dirt roads of uncertain quality, but I decided that I would start from this TH instead. The extra walking was on flat ground through open desert, and I doubt if it took much more time, if any, than driving on the rough dirt roads.
I made my way across the desert floor to a junction where a rough road leaves Power Road. I walked on the rough road for a mile or so to a saddle north of the summit, and then went up a steep slope to the high point. The slope was littered with volcanic rock and there was some occasional cactus and cholla to weave around.
There are some nice views at the summit, so I hung out there a bit before going back the way that I came.
I saw 8 burros on the hike -- 5 on the way in and 3 more on the way back. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated I saw a few ocotillo flowers, but that was it. |
