I drove in on good roads and parked just before a dip in the road, about 1,000 feet from the wilderness boundary. There was a wire crumple gate at the wilderness boundary that was chained and padlocked on both sides of the gate. Thankfully, I was able to step over one of the chains instead of having to crawl underneath a fence.
The entire hike was on a well graded dirt road with recent tire tracks on it, which is not what I expected to see in a wilderness area. The road went all the way to summit, which was marked by a cairn about 10 feet off the road.
This was a pleasant hike through Chihuahuan desert scrub land. The highpoint was on top of a small mesa, and it had some expansive views of the area, including that of snow capped Sierra Blanca Peak off to the west.
This was a pleasant easy hike, and I was happy to not encounter any reptilian hybrids or get abducted by aliens while I was there! |
