| no partners | | I hiked the Butterfly trail several times in the past but never took the time to stop at Westfall Knob before, until this time. Both the Bigelow trail and Butterfly trails in these areas were excellent. My only complaint was the dirt gets all over the place but I don't believe there's anything that can be done about that. The trail is a bit steep at times but nothing over class 2.
It's all good trail except the last 150 feet to the knob. I saw a rock pile at the high point but there was no registry in it.
On the way back up the Butterfly trail, I startled a bear and it ran down the steep slope making a lot of noise. I only got about a 1 second look and it was gone. I thought I saw a tiny cub trying to climb a pine 100 feet away but then it went back down and I couldn't see it. It was the smallest cub I've ever seen, if it was even a cub.
On the way back, I did another summit of Mt Bigelow, a peak that I have summited many many times.
