| no partners | | This was a place Jeff was familiar with but I haven't hiked here before. There were some trail loops on the North and South sides of Lower Mountain Road. The trails on the North side were better maintained, it seemed, but there were no signs or markers anywhere. We had to constantly consult the map to know where to go. The trails on the South side were maintained similarly in the beginning, but when we got to the Southwestern part of my route, the grass was a foot high or more. I was wearing shorts and a bit cautious to not pick up any ticks which seem to be common in the grassy areas of Western NY during the warmer weather. Along our route we found some black raspberries, some of which were ripe, some unripe grapes, and a few different kinds of flowers. There was a nice photo near the lake and nice tree cover for most of the loop. There wasn't much elevation for the entire hike. |
