The hike up was as steep as I had remembered. The 1.5 plus gallons of water I carried did not help. Luckily, in general I could pack light for this little, “backpack.”
The day and night I spent in the tower will probably go down as one of my more memorable experiences recreating outside. The tower occupies a stunning location high above the Boulder Creek drainage and just below the formidable Boulder Peak to the south. The tower is kept in great condition, it was cozy and I had plenty of audiobooks and podcasts downloaded for our fire tower shift. We both slept great and then hiked out the next morning. |
