There was a little bit of a marine layer in the valley, but not hefty like last month. Chatted with a presumably younger guy at the peak who had to be rescued earlier this year on Cucamonga after a 600ft fall in the snow. Good on him for keeping at it after healing up - continuing after a close call like that just means you really love it.
I passed about 15 people hanging out at Icehouse Saddle on the way down, and tons of other groups between there and the trailhead. Typical Sunday in the San Gabriels - always helps to start early. I was stubborn on this one and didn't take many breaks to keep my average speed up, my knee paid for it along the last two miles. Thankfully I hit the car before it got too bad.
Nice views from Ontario, but it's not as cool as Cucamonga Peak IMO. The views of Baldy were great along the peak trail, though. |
