| no partners | | Parked off Piuma Road at about 720ft elevation. Very misty and foggy to start but I was soon above the inversion and in the sun. The first couple miles were absolutely littered with spider webs - perfect for my arachnophobia. Ended up waving my trekking pole in front of me for the entire ascent to be safe.
Visited the east summit first. Views were limited to the north and a little to the east. Nothin' but fog to the south so no ocean views today. Walked over to the west summit/highpoint to find the gate open and a man standing at one of the radio buildings. I yelled to him to see if he'd grant me permission to enter and he sure didn't. Walked back to the midpoint between the two summits and had my PB&J on a convenient bench.
Encountered two rattlers on the way down - one of which I damn near stepped on. The second hissed at me from the bushes, then gave me a brief rattle before I fled the scene. Haven't heard that noise come out a snake before, must have been right off trail because it was loud. Whole lotta nope!
Between the spiders and snakes, I think this one took a year off my life expectancy. Anyone have a cigarette?
edit: seems fitting for my 666th triplog |
