| no partners | | I decided to renew my annual New Year's Day hike. I had not been to Wenima for more than a decade. It was great to see it again, although in the drabness of winter on a darkly cloudy day. This made for some interesting photography, I thought.
I didn't see any wildlife, other than a few ravens. The old powerhouse, which used to supply Springerville with electricity via a waterwheel, is still the same. A boulder fell through the roof, from the cliff above, many decades ago.
The trail had recent footprints, seems to get some use.
I lived in this area, with few breaks, from 1999 to 2013. Moved back this past spring, probably temporarily. I wasn't able to get out and hike much this past summer, other than a few times up Flat Top, because I'm a caregiver, need to be at home a lot. But it looks like I can get out this winter as long as I am gone only 2 or 3 hours. |
