| no partners | | Back to the Little Colorado Gorge again, this time with a big group of 10 people, mostly women from a local hiking group out of Pinetop.
The river has gone down a little bit since I last hiked here several weeks ago. We saw no wildlife other than ravens, and I saw the owl again (probably same owl I saw before, since it was in the same place.) Just barely saw it for a couple seconds as it flew away and around the bend. From its size I think it must be a great horned owl.
Today is the start of a predicted heat wave. By the time we were finished it was fairly warm, but not miserable. The hike went well, despite there being a large variety of hiking abilities. It seemed that everyone had fun.
We need rain, and snow. Prediction is for it to top out at 86 degrees 3 days from now, with single-digit humidity, and a breeze. Yikes. |
