| no partners | | Early morning hike in the Estrellas. Got out to the Horseshoe TH around 6:30. Still near full moon made it nice, but daylight is coming a little bit earlier everyday, so daylight was brightening sky as I started. Took the Horseshoe to the Toothacher which quickly brought me to the Butterfield. The Butterfield gets pretty close to the new campground. Looks like it is pretty close to being ready. From the Butterfield I took the Gadsden over to where the Flycatcher starts. This is becoming one of my favorite trails in this park. It basically just takes you over a saddle to the backend of the Gadsden. The elevation change is gradual and the trail plays nicely with the mountain. When I hit the Gadsden, I went west to the Butterfield and retraced my steps.
Another nice morning. Temps in the 50’s. No wildlife. Encountered 3 bikers, a jogger and 1 hiker. Nice to have the solitude of the Estrellas compared to the semi craziness of the Spur Cross. On the way out I purchased my Maricopa Park pass for another year and talked to the volunteer about the campground. She said she not sure when, but that the campground is ahead of schedule and they’re getting close. Also said that there will still be a Coldwater TH, but that they are planning another road to it, to avoid the campground. Sounds like that may delay the opening of the Coldwater TH. The price of a park pass has jumped considerably. Last year I paid $85 for the annual. Today it was $120. Yikes! Extra incentive to make I am hitting the Maricopa Parks to make sure I get my money worths. |
