Got to the east end Trailhead around 6am. Started by taking the Circumference Trail clockwise. Typically I take the more direct line and take the Basalt Trail over to the Ridgeline, but today I thought I would add the southern portion of the Circumference before hitting the Ridgeline. I really enjoy the southern part of the Ridgeline. It has a nice incline and is not too rocky. Hit the ridge about .6 miles into the trail and got some decent views in all directions (except the south). Descending the switchbacks on the northern section is a less pleasant. Still a nice incline, but much more rocky, which is par for this trail system. When the Ridgeline connected to the Circumference I continued clockwise on it to the TH.
Beautiful morning for a hike. Odd, temps were in the 60’s where I lived, but in the 50’s at the TH. Should probably enjoy these temperatures while they last. No wildlife to speak of, except for a lone rabbit. Saw a couple of hikers in the distance, but never encountered anyone. |
