| no partners | | I’ve hiked Park Ave numerous times on my way to hike trails within ERMP. It’s been a while since I’ve hiked Park Ave simply to hike this trail. Today was the day, though I did have an ulterior motive. Hiking the Park Ave would give me a chance to explore and try to figure out how the Estrella Foothill Trails work. I hiked in on the Park to where it connected to the Crossover. On the way back I took some side trails and went to the Circle of Trust. Passed 6 vehicles that were parked at the base of one of the hills just below the Jolly Roger’s Trail. Never seen cars in this area before. Either they were very lazy hikers/bikers or possibly a group of people doing trail work. Not sure. Never saw anyone who might have been associated with the vehicles. From the Circle of Trust I once again attempted to follow the Bootlegger Trail. It takes off from the circle heading in a northwest direction, but once it crosses a major wash its ending remains a mystery. I tried to follow it a week ago with no success. Today, once I crossed the wash I continued hiking straight. Eventually saw a make shift gravesite with “pirate” on the cross and then shortly thereafter a PC (Pirate Cove) carsonite marker. As I continued to follow the “flow” of the trail I came upon 1Up marker. Realizing that I had lost not only the Bootlegger Trail, but also the Pirate Cove Trail I decided to make my way to the SR (which I think is the Stargate Trail) and head back towards my starting point.
Pretty quiet day out there. Only encountered 1 trail runner and 3 biker. Wildlife was a couple of prairie dogs. There is a map of this system (the best that I’ve seen) which I will try to get posted. The Bootlegger isn’t even on this map. I’m starting to think that the Bootlegger was once a part of the Pirate Cove Trail and that the Bootlegger starts at the Circle of Trust and ends at the wash. Not sure. There are still quite a few use trails to explore in the area. I’m hoping I find another marker with BL emblazoned upon it. If nothing else, fun in the exploring. |
