The plan was to start from the Francisco Highland Park on South Mountain Ave and 28th Street, but the gates to the parking spaces were closed and locked. So, we started from 24th Street near Mormon trail head and headed eastbound and down on South Mountain Ave to Devastator. There's a nice dirt foot path parallel to South Mountain Ave from 28th Street to 32nd Street, not that there's any traffic to dodge on South Mountain Ave, but plenty of dog walkers. Nice steep rugged climb up Devastator, which we had all too ourselves. Javelina Canyon had plenty of hiker/biker traffic. Fair amount of traffic on Mormon trail, all hikers. Turned out to be a great loop. My first time up Devastator, which I've been wanting to hike for some years now. |
