8:35 start, in the sun all the way up. A wisp of a breeze down low increased to cool relief at the saddle. The trail hasn't had any maintenance this year, so it's brushy in spots. Still some green, but it's turning quickly. Buckhorn Cholla is blooming, with some thistle dotting the trail along the way.

The parking lot was only half full when I arrived. Peralta Road is a good as it gets. New fences line both sides of the road. No more access to the wide-open spaces. The Carney Springs trailhead has been returned to the desert.
