| no partners | | 10am start. Hiked from Canyon Lake to the junction with Second Water trail where I stopped for lunch. I returned the same way. Wildflowers are all but gone. Brittlebush is hanging on, same with globemallow on the canyon floor. I saw a few poppies just before reaching the canyon floor. It will all be gone soon, overtaken by foxtail, which is waiting in the wings. Flowering cacti stole the show today, buckhorn cholla and prickly pear leading the way. I saw my first saguaro flower, too, high up on an arm. There were quite a few people hiking to the overlook and back. I saw two people beyond that point. One was hiking from FW to Canyon Lake and back. He was cruising the second time I saw him, the hard part out of the way. I also saw several people returning from Battleship along the Second Water trail. Beautiful day. I had cloud cover ascending the steep hill out of the canyon, heading back up to the overlook. That was a first. Fun hike, fun day. |
