Superstition Peak Loop

Started at the Hieroglyphics Trailhead around 5:30 am

It was pitch dark for the first twenty minutes. It sprinkled for most of the way on route to the pools.

After the pools there's another not-so-pretty broken up slab of rock. The trail up to the Ridgeline Trail takes off quickly to the right. You soon encounter a THICK patch of thorn bush. Beware there's one sprig of catclaw

It's heavily cairned where you don't need it and lightly cairned where you do
Basically you skirt the upper right bank for almost a mile. Then you take on a steep narrow ridge and ride it to the top. This is where the cairns die out somewhat. Whip out your billy-goat face and just keep going up and go right of all the problems. Well, except the last one onto to the ridge but it's pretty obvious. There's one little (maybe) 10 foot climb on route but the hand holds are very good.

When you break on the ridgeline remember you have another 700 ft elevation gain.

If you want to bag the peak the access is on the SE corner. I passed on the 100 yard side trip as this loop wasn't the best of ideas to begin with in September.

Continue on to West Boulder Canyon Saddle and slide down to Carney Spring Trailhead. It's about 4 miles back the Hiero TH along the Lost Goldmine Trail.

I figure this loop to be only 75% as tough as the Ridgeline. Though in the heat it sure did sting like a mother. (aka not recommended, do it Dec-Feb) But it may be the best loop without leaving the city (there's a house right next to the trailhead :D )
