In fact, it is only visible coming down on the left side and the only reason we saw it was due to a surveyor's sign - that is behind a tree. The gate (with its link above for a descriptive picture) is incorrect. It is a barbed wire fence with corral entrance. I am not exactly sure how you would explain it, but it is not a gate. I am going to post my pictures to help out future hikers. We were lost for about 45 minutes down Highline, and ironically met up with another couple that read these same directions above that were also lost. At the junction of Highline/Drew, it was very confusing. If the picture would have been updated, that would have helped a lot. If the directions would have said you immediately turn left and head parallel to the barbed fencing, that would have helped also. The signs were down and laying on the side of the trail. We found them and used rocks to put them back up as best as possible. We also placed a HUGE rock cairn in front of the tree (right next to the barbed fence) that actually had a plastic "291" nailed to it. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions. It was a BEAUTIFUL hike today. The colors were spectacular. We prayed that we would eventually find Drew Trail, and we were so glad that we did. It was well worth the 45 minute detour :-) |
