Decided to hike up Windmill Mountain during my lunch break as there were two geocaches, one at the summit and one 3/4ths of the way up that I wanted to find. Parked off the shoulder and headed along the power lines before starting to climb up to the first geocache which was on a rock outcrop. Made it to the outcrop and quickly located the geocache and signed the logbook. Then headed to the summit, which was much easier as most of the elevation gain was behind me. Had to cross a barbed wire fence, but after that I was at the summit. Found the summit geocache in good shape then started to head back down. Crossed the barbed wire fence at the saddle then hiked down rather fast as I was running out of lunch break time. Mostly followed the wash on the way down and soon made it to the bottom near FR 525. At this point I was running out of time and ran back to where I left my truck to get back to Outlaw Trail. I did make it back down to my truck before my lunch ended, but the road was rough and a bit slow going so I ended up being five minutes late to the Outlaw Trail. Oh well, made a note in the vehicle observation sheet and continued my logging. It’s also super slow today and I still have three hours and 15 minutes left till my shift is over. |
