First geocache on the list was at the junction of that road an a section of the Arizona Trail. The closed road was fine to walk on, at least until I passed the spring, after that the road was covered in fallen trees and debris. This road will probably be closed forever. After .8 miles it eventually became no more than a foot path. After finding the geocache near the AZ trail, I headed up to find the second one near Bismarck Lake. My maps showed a closed road heading up through the woods, which looked to be a faster route compared to walking along the AZ trail. This ended up not being a road at all, but a very faint two track that eventually disappeared forcing me to bushwhack up to the lake. Eventually made it to the AZ trail and soon Bismarck Lake, which wasn't more than a small puddle of muddy water. Descended down another trail that followed the wash area down to Little Springs. This was the easiest part of my hike as it was down hill and the trail was in good shape. Saw the pipe / spring in the fenced off area and while there was no water flowing out of the pipe, there was a pool of water below it that looked clear. Also saw the informational sign and historic plaque. Made my way back to my truck after successfully finding all three geocaches. Enjoyable hike in all. |
