Pleasant 78 degrees when I left the house this morning. Temp rose quickly until I was rolling my through the Comp Track parking lot. Did the Tech loop, up the triple switchbacks (yay!), back to the parking lot, then a second loop counter clockwise on Gray Fox, Ironwood, Ford, Waddell, Mesquite, Ford, Ironwood, and Gray Fox. Had a little more left in me so I did a mini loop on the Comp track taking the first cut over. Saw 3 hikers on the Comp loop, 1 hiker on the Tech loop, 2 bikers and a trail runner on Ford Canyon. Got to spend some time chit-chatting with an old fella (that will be me soon enough) on a 'Lectric bike in the parking lot.

Decided to ride White Tanks this morning. Mixed it up and Parked at the recently remodeled Area 4, very nice! There's a short connector trail over to Mule Deer, then Ford Canyon for a bit to Mesquite, Waddell, Ironwood, Gray Fox over to the Comp Loop. Skipped the Tech Segment today. So happy to make it up the switchbacks today! Made my way back to Gray Fox after completing the Comp Loop, then Ironwood, Ford Canyon back to Mule Deer and Area 4 parking. Saw a rattlesnake in the bushes in the horse staging lot. Passed 2 hikers and a biker on the Comp Loop. Various other hikers a 2 bikers on the other trails. Made a stop at the windmill pond. Got started after 7, heat wasn't too bad, there was a nice breeze.

Lunch ride at the White Tanks today. Started with the Competitive Loop with the Technical Segment. Then continued with a counter clockwise loop on Gray Fox, Ironwood, Ford, Waddell, Mesquite, Wild Life loop, Ford, Ironwood, and Gray Fox back to the parking lot. Saw a horse at the start of my ride in the comp track parking lot, was still there when I returned 2 and a half hours later. First time I've visited the windmills off the Wild Life trail. Nice little pond/oasis! Took a lap around the campground and stopped to chat with a couple from Minnesota about their travel trail. Crazy windy today. Thought my van was going to blow over on the way home. Saw some hikers on the trails here and there. Lots of cars in the parking lots. Campgrounds were busy, but not full.

Riding White Tank trails this morning. Saw Scooby Doo out with Daphne near Waddell and Ford Canyon. Should have asked for a photo, but was too shy :)

Let the house before sunrise for the drive to White Tanks and it was already 86 degrees when I got there at 6:30. My favorite parking spot was just repaved with some bright white lines. Started on the Competitive loop with a side trip up the Technical segment. Made it up the triple switchback climb, it's been a while, I credit the new Bontrager Gunnison tires (lol). Saw one other biker, who parked aside of me, on the way back to the van to get my sunglasses. Went back out for a counter-clockwise loop on Desert Fox, Ironwood, Ford Canyon, Waddell, Ford Canyon, Ironwood, and back on Desert Fox. Saw that same biker finishing his ride and loading up his bike on the back of his new Tacoma. Great sunrise and super moon set this morning.

I had pickleball class in Surprise this morning so I loaded up the bike and my gear on my way out of the house this morning. After class, I headed over to the Sun Valley trailhead and rode the Maricopa Trail down to White Tank Mountain Regional Park, did a little loop in the park, and returned the way I came back to the van. Sun Valley trailhead is a great little gravel parking lot, no water or toilets though. Plenty of Maricopa Trail signs to keep you on track. Had some nice conversations with other trail users. Saw a pretty even mix of hikers and bikers on MT and in the park.

Good to be back on the trails. Did a nice, short hike with the wife. Went out to the White Tank(s) and did a loop involving the Ironwood trail. Got to the Mesquite TH around 11:30. Did a loop…Mesquite, Waddell, Ford, Ironwood and then back on the Ford to complete the loop. This is one of my favorite loops to run, but took it easy today and enjoyed the company. No wildlife, but trails were busy!

White Tanks Tuesday! Started at South Trail, to Goat Camp, Bajada, Mule Deer, Mesquite Canyon, Waddell, Ford Canyon, Gray Fox, Comp Loop, Gray Fox, Ironwood, Ford Canyon, Mule Deer back to South trail to complete the loop. Lots of cars in the parking lots and hikers out on the trails. Saw a few bikers too. Cattle drive going on south of big hill on Mule Deer. I was dragging today, couldn't wait to finish the loop.

Second MTB ride on the clipless system. Nervous about crashing on the triple switchback climb. Made it around the 1st switchback, no problem. Didn't full commit on the 2nd switchback and fell to the uphill side, thank god, while still stuck in the pedals. Made a go at the 3rd switchback, got 80% around and chickened out, got unclipped, whew! Easier than I thought to get restarted on the hill. Hot sun this morning, but cool breeze was appreciated. Saw one other biker on Ford Canyon trail. Couple of cars in the lots around the park.

Got a late start at White Tank Regional Park this morning, but didn't mind the heat and there was a nice breeze. Did the comp track loop and then on to Gray Fox, Ironwood, Ford Canyon, Mesquite, back to Ford/Ironwood/Gray Fox. Saw a nice Roadrunner hanging out near my van.

Despite the weather did a short run in the White Tanks after work. Got to the TH around 4pm with dark clouds looming. Did a clockwise loop. Starting on the Mesquite to the Waddell, briefly on the Ford to connect to the Ironwood and then back on the Ford to get back to the TH to close the loop. Despite all the rain trails were in good shape. Puddles were abundant, but they were easy to get around. Trails were at worst soft in places. Once again, I got lucky with the rain; the clouds loomed, but never released. One of my favorite loops to run....very low intensity. Weather and its effect today was incredible!!! When the sunlight shined on the Bradshaws and the McDowells. WOW :y: . No snow evident on the slopes of the White Tanks, but it seemed anything with elevation to the north or east was a "white wonderland." Beautiful!

Every time I head out to the White Tanks for a mountain bike ride I always end up riding the competitive loop. Today I decided to explore some of the other trails the White Tanks have to offer. I parked at the trailhead for South trail. I followed the following trails in a clockwise direction: South, Goat Camp, Bajada, Mule Deer, Mesquite, Waddell, For Canyon, Ironwood, and returned to my truck all the way back on Mule Deer. I encountered a fair number of hikers and bikers under the overcast skies this morning. Most were super happy to see me. I know I was super happy to see them, even the ones that didn't return the super happiness. South trail and Goat Camp were a little bumpy. The rest were smooth and well groomed. Signs at all the trail intersections. Nice relaxing ride. Almost thought I was going to get rained on.

Went out to the White Tanks to hike a few sections of trails I haven't done yet. Kept it to the flat trails with the heat being a factor these days. The weather was actually much better than last Saturday, much less humid. It was actually pretty cool early on with some light cloud cover, but later the heat started to kick in. Went through a lot of water, well over 150 oz.

I started from the end of Goat Camp Trail, then took the Bajada and Mule Deer Trails northbound to the Grey Fox Trail and headed back. Saw some bikers and trail runners early on, but by the time I was done at 11am, most everyone was already gone for the day. The burn area there from a few months ago already looks better. Still no vegetation obviously, but less black and charred.

Went back to White Tanks to do the hike I planned last week that got put on hold from the fire. I hiked the lower trails, with the main goal to finish all the Mule Deer Trail since it's part of the MT.

I started down at Parking Area 1 and hike the southernmost portion of the Mule Deer Trail, eventually heading north. I hiked the little spur over towards the Nature Center, since that's also a designated part of the MT. As I hiked over the high point of the Mule Deer Trail, that's where the wildfire was. Mostly just scorched earth, not as much brush as there was before. On the way up the hill, 4 or 5 mountain bikers flew down the hill past me without the slightest thought of yielding the trail. All other hikers and bikers I encountered the rest of the morning were decent human beings.

At the staging area, I headed north on the Ford Canyon Trail, then took a right turn and hiked all of the Ironwood Trail, then headed south on the Waddell Trail. After the Waddell, I took a right turn onto the Mesquite Canyon Trail back to staging area.

Hiked over the hill on the Mule Deer again, and took the Bajada over to Goat Camp. Along the Bajada is where I saw the saguaro with a hole in it that obviously has a bees nest. The air rushing out of the whole made it sound like there was an AC unit inside the cactus. Managed to zoom inside the hole for a decent pic without putting myself at too much risk.

From the Goat Camp Trail, I turned left on the South Trail and back to the car. The temperature wasn't too hot. Got a little warm the last hour or so, but not unbearable. The early morning light cloud cover helped with that. Nice to get some higher mileage on actual trails again, even if the AEG was still a little lacking.
