First down into Jacobson Canyon to an area I've never been.
Then across the Swift Trail to the RTN for a random loop around the lower area.

Up to the Jacobson Overlook then some off-trail down the canyon.
Kicked up a couple white tails by the water hole.
Had a campfire back at the parking area before leaving.

Afternoon hike up the RTN.
Planned on just up to Jacobson overlook, but fresh Forest Service horse poop had me completing the entire road looking for the horses.
Got to the top and looked down the mountain to see the horses gathered around my vehicle  :-k
Hiked back down and had a great interaction with these beautiful horses that open graze this old road and surrounding area during the summer months. Rewarding hike with some nice cool weather.

Quick stop on the way home at Roper to see some friends and watch a great sunset 7/10
:D

RTN to end 2022.
Beautiful evening for this one.
To the road's end and back, I skipped the foot trail portion.

2PM all ready to head out the door when Safford got clobbered by a big monsoon storm.
Had to wait about an hour for it to clear so that put me on the RTN at about 3:30.
50/50 weather on the way up the road/trail.
Very, very scenic hike looking down on the Gila Valley and on my way up and around the mountain side to the big payoff view at the end.
Didn't stay long as a new storm was brewing over Hielograph Peak.
Half way down at Jacobson overlook it was poncho weather the rest of the way.
Wow ... what a fun, scenic & wet hike this was!
Only bummer was I didn't have my usual Tuesday partner with me ... she would have hated the end of this one
Good time on the RTN.

Nothing big just out enjoying all this mountain water!
Entered Jacobson at about the mid section and down to my secret waterfall.
Then a bit up Helldive Spring. Never even came close to the spring, tall grasses has the trail completely hidden.
I ended with the RTN where I was greeted with the evening's storm cells & a faint rainbow. Was heading up the road when I noticed the FS horses in the opposite direction up in the canyon. I can never pass up the horses so up the canyon I went at sunset. Reached and had a great interaction with the 8 of them before heading back down in the low light. It's always a little nerve racking hiking through the grasses wondering where them rattlesnakes are.
So beautiful up there with all the water & green!

Stopped at Roper before heading up the mountain.
Ended up staying longer than expected as a big storm hit the park. I haven't seen that much rain fall there in a long time. Me and AS drove the park to see all the flooding.
Storm passed and I headed up to RTN for a short hike.
Then down to Deadman Curve for more storm views.
Crazy storm day!

2 previous days with big storms hitting the mountain.
Thought I would go up and check water flow.
Wet Canyon - Hiked up to the 1st waterfall. There was decent flow, there always is up there.
Noon Creek - Hiked up to the upper crossing. No flow, just pools.
RTN - Parked low and hiked up to the Jacobson overlook for some views down onto town. Then back down for some camp chair sitting waiting for the full moon to rise.
June's Strawberry moon looked very cool and was worth the 1 hour wait!

First hiked down to lower Noon Creek to check the flow, nada only puddles.
Then hiked RTN up to the overlook and back.
Not much going on tonight with the monsoons.
:)

Added a few late night laps around the block.

Still nursing a gimpy ankle, so just to the overlook and back.
Spotted a white-tail buck standing in the middle of Bench Tank.
Still a lot of snow on the upper peaks, could hear roaring water down in Marijilda Canyon.
Nice sunset from the overlook (7/10)
Hiked back down in the dark.
:)

Sunrise start.
Don't often get to see this one in the early morning and it was beautiful watching the sun light up the mountain, road & Gila Valley below!
Hiked the full road including the foot trail around to the "bowl" overlook.
Everything looked awesome, well ..... except for all the new graffiti on the Jacobson overlook wall and now up the entire road. Lots of Joanie loves Chachi pumpkin, but some of it actually looks cool ..... :|
Good wildlife this morning including - 7 deer, 3 piggies, several vultures, hawk, ridiculous amount of bunnies and 4 of those fricknaley scaredys.
I really enjoyed this morning one up :D

Arrived at the parking area to see my old buddy heading up the road.
Cool! Got to go up with a friend I haven't hiked with since my Roper Lake days!
At the end of the road he turned back and I continued on around the mountain on the foot trail to the "view". Relaxed under a favorite tree with a hot cup of coffee and the views before returning back down at sunset.

This was my first visit to the upper section since the Frye Fire.
The fire hit this entire area, but more heat scorched the trees then burned them. I believe this area should recover nicely in the coming years and that's a great relief ..... this road has always been very sentimental to me.
Reunited with an old hiking buddy and the always great overlook views down onto the Gila Valley made this one
:y:

Was gonna be a hike day ..... Na ..... don't feel like it today.
Decided on just an afternoon of R&R somewhere on the lower mountain.
I first drove up to the Round the Mountain trail/campground. Built a fire and seasoned some cookware for upcoming trips.
I then hiked down to Noon Creek and also made a driving stop at the picnic grounds for a bit as well.
Then a quick trip down to Angle Orchard for some tasty apples ..... better than Apple Annie's (yup, I said it).
I finished with a very scenic drive up the RTN. Haven't drove the road in years (hike it most of the time) and remembered why, very rocky in several places and I had to apologized to my tires upon reaching the Jacobson Overlook. Spent the next couple hours watching a good thunderstorm move from Artesia northwest all the way across the Gila valley and on to Pima, It was Awesome to watch! Sat on the wall for sunset then watched a couple weak lightning storms in the far distance before returning home.
Well spent afternoon.

Only had time for half the road this evening.
Met and talked with a real nice couple at the Jacobson overlook.
Didn't see the horses, cool temps felt good & sunset was a 5/10.

Upper half of Graham was socked in today.
Road to Nowhere lies just below that level, so RTN today it was.
I first encountered and had a fun interaction with the Forest Service horses that are put out on the road in the winter months ..... cool start!
Then the standard up, up & around the mountain side to "the view".
Did a little uphill climbing for more views before returning back down.
Took in the cold sunset with the horses back at my truck, said my goodbyes and headed home.

Can't believe it's been over 6 months since my last hike up.
This use to be a monthly deal, and will become one once again.
There is a lot of new graffiti at the Jacobson overlook wall and like most everyone else, I hate it, but gotta say that some of it looks cool :?
The overlook views down on the Gila Valley & up Mt Graham were very scenic as always and as a bonus, I encountered 2 joggers going up as I was coming down :o ..... kind of rare up there :)
