Is it even possible that I haven't been on Browns in a decade!? :o I know I hadn't been up since the Bush Fire, but that's only half the elapsed deficit. Oh well.

I set out to summit Browns, but didn't really wanna go the boring way. Alder Saddle looked interesting. But the 2012 triplogs seemed to indicate it could be a bit overgrown. @BobP did a motherlode that seemed to take a ridge route that looked interesting, but his triplog provided no clues and a perfect circle has more points than his GPS track. But I started out in that general direction anyway. After nearly 3 miles, things didn't look too bad and I turned off the trail at the saddle at 5840 and started up, heading for the main ridge to the summit.

I managed to dodge most of the flora first heading up the drainage and later following the clearest path through the brush to the lower ridge at 6300. As I turned south and made my way to the steep climb up to the main ridge, I encountered the only real obstacle today, a couple hundred yards of dense manzanita. Looking back from higher up it appeared I could have avoided it completely had I stayed east of the ridge until the climb began.

From 6400 to 7000 is a near vertical climb but lightly vegetated and reasonably easy to ascend. I kept looking to the next ridge to the west which appeared less steep, but stuck to the nose all the way up. The next half a mile is as enjoyable a hike as any ridgeline in the state and made the whole day worth it. Pure delight.

The final climb to the summit features some route finding and boulder scrambles but still infinitely less challenging than the chute on the opposite side of the peak. I had the summit to myself and took a nice break enjoying the crisp 52 degree afternoon.

Undeterred, I decided to attempt another 2012 route, a @wallyfrack special that didn't sound terrible when he did it in the snow! This worked fine for me, but it's a one-way option only. The chute is thick with oak, and I appreciated the sturdiness of the trunks and firm grip of the roots as I let gravity do the work. It would be an impossible chore to fight this forest while ascending.

After looking for Bear Spring and coming up empty early in the hike, I made a beeline for Jack's Spring on the way down, checking both the HAZ map location and the old topo map location. Neither of which had any signs of water, infrastructure, vegetation, or wildlife routes.

From the topo mark, I traversed on what might have once been a manmade cut to get over to Amethyst, eventually getting stopped by a manzanita forest where I made a direct path to the trail.

I hadn't been on this part of Amethyst before and I was happy to be on a trail again, but also needed to keep an attentive eye on where the route went. Before long it was back on 130 and back to the truck.

I'd do my ascent route again. It's arguably the best Browns route I've done.

Driving options
El Oso: 41 minutes / 50.6 miles paved driving plus 29 minutes/ 10.6 miles dirt road (70min/61mi)
FR143: 54 minutes / 18.3 miles dirt
15 minutes shorter and 43 miles less via FR143.

El Oso was rougher than I remember, with quite a few washboards and some rougher rocky sections. Views are much nicer on this side. FR143 top section above Mud Spring TH has been totally excavated and very nice. The middle stretch between Mesquite Wash and Cline TH is as rough as I've ever seen it and needs serious work. Brushy Basin is nice-ish.

Later portion of FR 143 is clearly smoother than it was the last time I drove it 2.5 years ago. That doesn't translate to you should attempt it with your car. Still takes lots of time driving back there from the 87.

4 Peaks Trail provides even better views than browns. Amethyst Trail is rocky and requires some RF. Don't expect to run into anyone on there.

This trail winds past 3 of the 4 peaks. It eventually becomes overgrown before hitting a dead end at a keep out sign 🛑 This spot is aptly described in the write up. We took browns back. The others preferred it to continuing back on Amethyst.

Decided to revisit Amethyst mine, or at least the gate delimited access to the Amethyst mine. The road up to Lone Pine trailhead is in relatively good condition. No big washouts, just lots of annoying bouncy rocks. Took about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Beeline highway to trailhead in my jeep at a somewhat spirited pace. We took Brown's trail up to the chute. I still haven't garnered up the courage to make an attempt at the summit. It could happen, maybe. Went back down to Amethyst trail and followed it all the way to the gate. It is being maintained, but lots of overgrowth = death by 1000 cuts :) Perfect day for a hike!

We seem to always be taking photos of the Four Peaks when we are out hiking so we finally decided to make the drive out there and see them up close and personal. For being relatively close as the crow flies it takes a circuitous route to get there by car. We opted to come in from the north via 87 and 188 to El Oso Road. The alternative with the closure on 88 was to come around from the south through Globe.

The 12 mile drive into the wilderness on the dirt road was slow but not too bad. El Oso Road lived up to it's name in only a few places. Lot's of dust, and our brand new Hyundai Tucson was well on it's way to looking like an 'Old Pueblo'.

Oh yeah, the hike. We started from the Lone Pine Trailhead @8:30. No one else around. We followed the route shown in the HAZ Guide under the same name as this trip. It's a steady and constant uphill push to the saddle below Brown's Peak. We passed through several eco-zones and views just got better and better. For us the 1400' climb felt much more difficult than it should have. We have not been doing many hikes that venture above desert elevations and this one started at 5700'. The lack of O's combined with the smoke in the air from the forest fires had us struggling a bit.

Once at the saddle we took a snack break then continued on the Amethyst Trail below the peaks towards the mine. We passed the "chute" where you can scramble up to the summit of Brown's. Neither of us could channel any Alex Honnold inner mojo so we just said "maybe someday". :scared: At the 3.2 mile mark we struggled with overgrown thorny conditions and combining that with fatigue from the elevation we turned it around. I really don't like it when I don't finish something but I was totally fine with this bail out.

On the way back we met a young couple at the saddle on their way out to summit Brown's. They were new transplants to Arizona from Illinois and Indiana celebrating their 1 year wedding anniversary. They just joined "Arizona Hiking Group" and said they had been following some guy on social media named "Arizona Chumley". Could it be HAZ's @chumley? We told them about HAZ and it looks like they will be joining soon.

The trip down the mountain was making my right knee fill up with water. Not much pain, just that weird 'thick' feeling. Also, acorns kept dropping from the trees making a racket. Sounded like someone was always in the brush crashing around. We could clearly see two separate plumes from fires to the north and northeast. I took a photo of one of them on the way down. [ photo ] Overall, this hike was spectacular and I recommend it highly. Long drive for a short hike but the views were truly amazing. We only wish the smoke hadn't interfered with our photos...so much haze. :( We stopped in Tonto Basin on our drive out and split the world's WORST EVER green chili burrito. [ photo ]

The drive:
Thinking it was a weekday and hot weather, we didn't expect any traffic on FR 143 but we weren't quite so lucky. We had to pass three pretty-much deaf ATC riders on the way up...
First rider: (tail-end Charlie) short beeps on the horn... no response, longer beep... no response so I just drove right on by.
Second rider: short beeps on the horn... no response, longer beep... no response, laid on the air horn, still nothing so again just blew on by.
Third rider: Must have heard the air horn because he just sped up and he simply wasn't going to let me pass so I figured we'd just ride his pumpkin until he realized his buddies (particularly tail-end Charlie) were FAR behind.
Finally at the FR 11 intersection he pulled off and we drove on by. They must have really been slow, because we would be over an hour into our hike before we heard them nearing the end of FR 143.

The hike:
Very much like our Mount Ord hike yesterday this was just a tad on the warm side. The humidity was a bit high early on so we worked up a big sweat on the climb up Brown's Trail. We continued past the Amethyst Trail #253 intersection to the saddle where we spent a bit of time wringing out our soaked clothes before heading back down to #253.

I hadn't been on the Amethyst Trail since 2004 (when there actually WAS a decent trail) so I really didn't know what to expect. Knowing a lot will have changed in 15 years along with my original track I also had Joe's 2014 #253 track.

And change it did... following it was much harder than I thought and I figured it wouldn't be long before Tracey would be chastising me for choosing this OFF-trail hike. Surprise, surprise, there were no complaints from Tracey... at least out loud.

It soon became a game of "here's the trail" followed moments later by "we lost it" after being forced to take a detour around a wall of Manzanita, only rinse and repeat over and over. The descent was almost as much work as the ascent on Brown's Trail, and with most of it in the direct sunlight it was getting pretty warm.

Once we hit #130 we had a real trail to follow and the descent to #134/AZT #21 was a lot easier. But by now the air temp was ramping up and we almost headed back on #134 right away, but decided to head south until we found a place to sit in the shade for our lunch stop, which turned out to be at the dry-as-a-bone Shake Spring.

Break over, time to hit the mostly-ascending trail to Pigeon Spring followed by the 100' climb to the road and the half-mile road-walk back to Lone Pine. The humidity had dropped steadily so the last hour or so wasn't too bad but I was definitely ready for the hike to end.

We took a leisurely pace on the drive back to 87 and with no vehicles to contend with it was nice.

Tracey had never been on the Amethyst Trail and the only time I had was mid-year 2005 so with only 10% chance of showers we figured it was worth a shot.

And like last week, it was just another 3H day... Horridly Humid Hike. Again I was soaked through-and-through within a mile and it didn't let up.

We saw three separate shooters along FR 143 but no vehicles at the TH so we thought we may have the mountains to ourselves.

And we pretty much did until the return trip when two young guys (20-25?) who had topped Browns Peak passed us on the return trip. They mentioned a rattlesnake encounter on the trail on their way up so it must have begun sunning itself after we had passed. Shucks! We missed it. ](*,)

On my one-and-only previous trip out to the end of the Amethyst Trail the gate preventing access to the mine compound was a simple affair through which one could easily pass. But now, due likely to many curious folks ignoring the signs, the gate is now a pretty serious affair, complete with concertina wire... and not just across the top but on the side as well as some distance down-slope.

Another item I noted different from the previous trip was a newer and smaller building. Previously it was longer and narrower, basically a single-wide with only one opening visible from the Amethyst Trail. The photos I took were from some distance back on the Amethyst Trail as the building is not visible from the gate.

No dramas today, no bears, no animals, nothing but striped lizards with aqua-blue tails.

As for me & my back issues it was a relatively pain-free day, with the only item of note was losing the feeling in the first three fingers on my left hand on the return trip and they're still a bit tingly three hours later so I have no idea what that's all about.
Weird... :-k

By time we drove back out to the Beeline shortly after 1 pm all three shooters along FR 143 were gone.

3H or not, it was better than sitting around at home on a hot & muggy day.

Noticed lots of wet looking clouds hanging about on Four Peaks on the way in this morning. Only two cars in the lot when we arrived at 8AM. Headed up Brown's Trail through the continuously passing clouds. Missed a turn and dead ended, called the attempt on Brown's Peak as we were there to hike Amethyst Trail. Eventually found the Amethyst Trail and followed it until the end at the mine gate. Returned to Brown's Trail and then followed Amethyst down to 4 Peaks Trail and back to the parking lot. Amethyst to the mine was easy enough to follow and just a bit grown over. Amethyst from Brown's Trail down to 4 Peaks Trail was hit or miss. On a well defined trail one minute and completely lost then next. I couldn't believe how quick and completely the trail disappeared. I think it would have been easier to follow going up instead of going down. Lots of bushwacking and leg shredding. Fun day. Perfect temps. Awesome hiking through clouds!

Time to hit the Amethyst Mine, sure glad we did, vista's are amazing, looking down on Saguaro Lake and Burro Cove which we had just done previously was awesome. Trail was well defined,(came upon some bear fresh scat so we were extra cautious) got to the mine gate took some pictures and had lunch and returned. I would go to this area more if it wasn't such chore :-({|=

What a nice way to cap off an eventful Memorial weekend. My 5th triplog of the weekend would be the Mother Lode.

I met a group on Brown's Peak and one of them asked if I had ever head of anyone doing all four peak, I said actually...
The rest of the M.L. was complete solitude. I was a little slow, probably related to the routes I chose, but also a little fatigued for some reason. I could not make up my mind all day. I had two routes to use, my first route when I had no idea what I was doing, or my route with Karl that included some stuff I was not crazy about doing alone. I just did not have the usual zeal for climbing, so the majority of the day involved retreating across the bottom of the peaks. A safer route, but not good for time and I found myself in trouble a few times trying to scurry down, when I should have maintained my usual route across the ridges.

I Had a legitimate fall coming down final peak. I was trying to get cute hopping across the rocks to avoid dropping down into the bush and had about a seven foot fall down a couple of quick ledges. No injuries, but it got my attention. I saw three Arizona Blacks, which only makes one laugh, just another thing to contend with when doing the M.L.

Finally made my first summit of Brown's with bcollins11! We foolishly and optimistically thought the clouds would "burn off" later on this cold day. And my friend had only shorts and t-shirt, but that wouldn't stop us. The road is quite the test of patience. We mistakenly followed a group out the parking lot down the Four Peaks trail when we meant to go straight up Brown's. (Just because you see people camping, don't assume they're not directly on the trail). But we took what I believe was the start of the Amethyst trail when we realized we were off track according to GPS. Reconnected to the main trail after a challenging ascent. This area isn't described well, but I believe it to be the blue route on the map attachment.

WOW the clouds were mystical, magic, and magnificent. Halloween special effects. They would come and go and offer ominous glimpses at and around our destination. They broke just so slightly at the peak to offer rewarding views, but we didn't get any complete panoramas. Safety George recommended our climbing helmets for the chute, which we donned, and were nice to have, if not for the added warmth. Great day. We survived the 4 wheelin', shootin', beer drinkin' masses on the way back.

Tried the MotherLode in May 2013 and tore my ACL within sight of Brown's Brother summit and had to hobble back to the TH defeated. After surgery tried again the same year on Dec 21st but we got snowed out. Third times the charm as we had good weather and even better cloud effects.

7am start with the clouds rolling in...Chumley said they were not of the rain variety and he was correct. The clouds made for a great show all along the Four Peaks ridgeline as we made the tough climb across. We took our time crossing and stopped for a nice break on each summit to enjoy the views and cloud show. Definitely think that the climb between peak 2 and 3 is the toughest although it may be just the way we went. Lots of vertical slabs, knife edge climbs, and crashing through brush. But eventually we all made it to Amethyst Peak and celebrated making it across...somebody brought some nougat Christmas mints :)

Great hike...so glad to finally get this one without incident :y:

Hiked some hills. I think there were four of them. Good people. Spectacular weather with mother nature putting on a theatrical show with the clouds. My first time doing 1-2-3-4. I still think 4-3-2-1 is my preference. I have to remind myself to do this more than once a year. Lately I seem to break my truck on HAZ trips. Oh well. Seems worth it.

So Four Peaks was on my radar after reading JJ's recent triplog. That led to a causal conversation with John at Boulders on Sunday about why neither one of us have hit that high point, some how that escalated into me knocking out the Mother Lode!

Nothing was really ideal about this Mother Lode trip either. I didn't even leave Boulders until 10, and it was not until about 11:30 p.m. that the idea of the Mother Lode even crossed my mind while searching for driving directions and a route up to Brown's Peak. I thought why not just download a route and play it by ear? But whose route? I knew well enough not to touch anything done by Dave 1, Joe, Bob P, or J.J. ;)

I noticed that Chumley had taken Claire on his last Mother Lode trip so I figured that route was probably more in my wheel house and sadly more conducive to my skill set and conservative nature. After all, I would be going solo. Lets be real though, I upped the ante a tad bit on Chumley's route, found a few more "direct" approaches ;)

Again nothing was ideal about the planning for this little hike, I jotted down on a 3" by 5" note card "4321 classic" "1234 hard" some driving directions on the back and the names of the peaks by number, that was the extent of my planning. However, to be honest at that point I was pretty much reserved to just finally knock out Brown's Peak.

Even when morning hit I was still just committed to Browns Peak, slept in a little, went to the gym and did not even finish up until nearly 6:30, came home ate a quick little breakfast and really did not rush to leave town. In hindsight, could have probably did without the 5 a.m gym run, there were no shortages of opportunities to work other muscles besides the legs on this hike.

Didn't even start hiking until 9! Sacrilege for the last day of June in AZ! However, thanks in part to my usual early morning caffeine buzz, I thought why not? Although, in hindsight it would have probably been prudent to let someone know where and what I was doing before sister's peak, when I finally got the bright idea to at least shoot Chumley a quick text.

I don't know if I always took the right route, but I made it! The hike was awesome, just a nice little test of nerves, strength, stamina etc. It also had a little twist at the end.

I ran into two guys on way back to TH, and their exact first words to me were, "hey, we are a little loss." When I came across them they were down to one water source between the two of them and measuring shadows in an attempt to determine the cardinal directions. They had violated a very basic rule that whenever I bring up people scoff and laugh at me. A map is nearly useless for the most part if you can not identify any of your cardinal directions, last I check paper maps do not orient their self. I don't want to make light of their situation, but they were close to the TH. However, they were preparing to head back to the fork heading towards Amethyst Mine, as they were sure that is where they went wrong. I told them, "look you two are grown men, so I wont lecture you, but I am going to hike probably a 1000 miles this year, and you will never catch me out hiking without at the very least my compass and GPS and preferably a map if possible." They totally got it and were relieved to join me for final stretch back to TH. Although, a comical situation to most of us, this is how tragedies happen, so if I don't show up, these two guys with about 20 oz of water would have hiked all the way back to the mining area, probably turned around again and who knows what may have happened from there. When we got to the car they told me their goal was to knock out at least three of the peaks, to give a perspective they started ten minutes after me and did Brown's Peak plus about 300 feet towards his brother before they wisely backed off. In fact, the one guy said, "hey did you find you had to climb to hit all those peaks today, because we were climbing!?" I replied, "a little" ;)

After Action Review (AAR):

One thing I did well: Route finding, I don't remember ever having to back track, although, when I post my route it may say different.

One thing I need to improve on: Communication! probably does not hurt to let someone know where I am at for these type of hikes.

One thing I can sustain: Pace was solid, granted I had a route as guide, but was still able to knock out the Mother Lode in under seven hours, seems respectable from the triplogs I read.

Consumed before hike: 1 scoop of NO Explode, 1 NOS Energy drink and a bowl of Kix, Just a little 600mg caffeine buzz to start your day.

Consumed During hike: 80 oz of water, 20 oz of Gatorade, two Fig Newtons, a Rice Crispy Treat and three peanut butter crackers, no time to eat when you are climbing all day.

Final Notes: I always have a soundtrack in my head for my hikes, usually a song I am too embarrassed to admit was stuck in my head, and I silently and even aloud sometimes usually recite the one chorus I know over and over, Well for this hike that song was "Mother" by Danzig, I thought very appropriate.

Just a great way to end my most productive month of hiking as a HAZ member, from Grand Canyon to the top of Humphreys, Bear Wallow, Blue Range, Pacheta, some peaks and high points around Prescott and a nice little grand finale..The Mother Lode.

HAZ Appreciation:Thank you Janelle for route, Chumley said you can thank Janelle for that route, so thank you.

Cold weather and fresh snow really tested us on this one. It was tough to even get out of the truck at the TH but we were determined to see how much snow was on the mountain. Trail part was no issue and the winter wonderland started soon after the hike began. As we gained elevation the snow got deeper and trees became more coated with ice and snow. Really cool to see some of the trees with cool ice/wind sculptures on them. We eventually reached the saddle and began the steep climb up the chute. There was talk of just doing Brown's because of the deep snow but the decision was made when we hit the first exposed rock face. The face was covered in ice and decision to call this one before it really got started. It was a bummer to turn back but probably the best decision. Conditions with snow, wind, and ice were cool to see but not best for today's Mother Lode adventure. Great to hike with Bruce for the first time and hike with Bob and Joe again. We will definitely have to try again...would have been fitting to knock this one out on the 10th anniversary of Joe's first Mother Lode :( We'll be back....

Bob kindly posted the 10 year anniversary of my first Mother Lode. I'd been looking forward to this one for some time. Cold weather and fresh snow put "The Veta Madre" into uncertainty. The committed manned up and the show went on.

We met three days before the hike or maybe it was 4:30am... shortest day of the year so do what ya gotta do. Karl delivered us safely to the evil empire of patchy kryptonite ( eskimos call it snow ).

With thermal pants under pants, two pairs of socks, three shirts, balaclava and goretex waffle stompers it wasn't too bad. Well save the howling wind. Bruce lent me his secondary windbreaker and Bob lent me his secondary set of warm ski gloves. I never got cold in the terms of what I expected... kill me now type of screaming cold if you are wondering.

We made excellent slow time to the saddle. Luckily everyone seemed fine with taking it easy so we wouldn't sweat then freeze. ( lesson learned on Jacinto )

Up in the chute, it wasn't the worst-case scenario with solid ice. It was light snow and slippery rock. Bruce and Karl didn't want to risk it. I think Bruce's decision was highly influenced by his wet feet. I'm sure many of us can relate to that feeling.

We took the defunct #253 ending on #130 on the way back. Blue skies opened up for a while. Then we heard birds flying low through the brush chirping up a storm. In the past, this has played out to a storm rolling in. Sure enough, the skies darkened up and it was snowing on our last leg of the hike.

Interestingly it was more fun today than torture for a change. For the first time, I can sort of understand how this type of experience is intriguing. Might even consider our experience today as... lucky. AutoRotate, Jim_H, and the Walrus missed out!

Carried 3 quarts water, maybe consumed 4 ounces

Karl isn't having the greatest luck with Mother. The third time will surely be the charm. Hope to be there when he meets that victory!

The Plan
My first Brown's Peak summit and Mother Lode.

The Setup
The weather during the first part of the week was perfect.
Then rains hit the Valley, Thursday Night into Friday. Snow was forecast for Four Peaks.
Since this is the shortest daylight of the year we met at 4:30 in the Valley, for a 6:30a hike start.

The Cast
Karl - Bifrost
Bob - BobP
Joe Bartels as the Beaver
Me - Coanbru

The Drive
Karl was nice enough to drive. Turning on Four Peaks Road for the 20 mile drive in, and after about 5 miles in, we were socked in by clouds the rest of the way to the TH. Sometimes visibility was down to 10'. No snow was seen until we almost reached the TH at 5,700'.

The Hike
It took awhile to get everyone motivated enough to get out of the warmth of the truck.
Everyone was trying to figure out how much clothing to bring. The wind is blowing, the clouds are zipping past, and being a person that wears glasses, this is about as bad as it gets. (It gets worse).

Temp at the beginning of the hike is 32 degrees with a wind. The more elevation we start gaining on our march to the top, the cooler it gets. The talk begins about maybe we just do Brown's today. We start our climb up the chute with snow about 8" deep. It's now down to 26 degrees and the wind is blowing like a biznatch. Note to self.... If you intend to do anymore hikes like this, at least get some waterproof trail shoes and some bring warmer gloves.

Getting to the first up climb over exposed rock (covered in ice), and I knew it was over for me. Bob and Joe did their best to offer up options that went up, but for me the smart thing was to put my tail between my legs and retreat.

On the way down we hit the Amethyst Trail (More or less) to the Four Peaks Trail to make a mini loop. We had trouble finding the Amethyst Trail in spots. On the Amethyst, we literally got our first views of the day with Roosevelt Lake coming into view. The clouds were pretty incredible. The Four Peaks Trail was a smooth cake walk back to the TH where Karl had Barley Pops on ice for us.

Thanks for setting this one up Bubby..... good to see you again.
Great meeting Karl for the first time. I see more hikes in the future.
Joe-Joe.. a blast as always. Thanks for the Orange Topper.

I've been itching to get back on the Mother Lode in the past few months after my successful introduction last spring (thanks Janelle!) A few people have been trying to get me to take them, and it frequently comes up in hiking conversations about it at Boulders. Not entirely confident that I could nail the route as well as Janelle when she had done it 6 or 7 times over the span of a couple of months, I decided to risk it and lead my first ML!

Claire had done half of it two years ago with Liz, but they got tripped up on their route and there wasn't enough daylight so they hadn't finished it. Turns out she had Saturday free and asked to go, so I put off another hike I had planned, excited to do the ML.

Everything went fine, if not a little bit slower than my first trip due to a few places where I didn't remember the best route. We never got too far off track, and ended up finding the way without having to do any backtracking, which was nice. My 4/30/12 GPS track was amazingly accurate and incredibly helpful at times. I do recommend that track to anybody looking for a good guide to follow. (You still need to find your own route at times, but it is a real helper).

As we climbed Amethyst there were three guys climbing up Sister (by what looks like a crazy route). I got a few photos, and you can barely even see them when I zoom in! Really puts it into perspective!

We got tired and slower after Brother and managed to get to Browns just before sunset. A quick celebratory beer and we headed down the chute while there was still light. From the bottom of the chute to the saddle we hiked in moonlight as the red sky disappeared to the west. A leisurely stroll by headlamp back to the TH punctuated the day where we both felt exhausted but with that great sense of accomplishment you just can't get on a normal hike.

I hurt today. I forgot what an absolute :pk: -kicker that hike is. :stretch: And I can't wait to do it again! : rambo :

Three very cool 360 photos from each of the peaks 4-3-2. The Browns one got washed out because the sun was too low in the sky:

Stats:
1 liter of plain water
1.5 liters of vitamin water
3 slices of pizza, half a sandwich, some jelly beans, and a hop knot :)

8:20 saddle
9:20 mine

For perspective on how this works, my GPS recorded just 2:56 of "moving" time, and 9:19 "stopped". I assure you we were actually moving most of the time it thought we were stopped!
