Long Canyon has been on the list for a bit, and it seemed like good Sedona weather, so decided on that this morning (my friend literally showed up at my place, and I said, "I was thinking Mazatzals, Supes, or Sedona, what sounds good?"). Last minute decisions are great.
Anyways, we parked near Boynton TH, along the road, and started up over Deadman's Pass. Everything from here up to where Long Canyon takes a little jog north is pretty flat, easy jogging. After the north jog the scenery gets like 10 times better. Colors were popping near the end of the trail.
At the official trail end, there are a few different canyons you can explore. We walked up the one to the east (towards Maroon Mountain), some vegetation and scrambling involved. Curious whether one could get up to Maroon from there, but it looked like a pretty steep scree slope farther up ahead.
Way down was fast and easy, took a detour around Mescal Mountain. Mascal trail was good fun. |
